The level of fire retardancy will depend on the fabric chosen, but we only use UK fire retardant foam tested to BS 5852: Crib 5 as standard. However, we stock certain products in specific fabrics with a defined level of fire retardancy (explained below). To help you, we have specified the level next to each product.
The stocked fabric and foam is tested to BS 7176 Medium Hazard. These products are suitable for use in offices, public places and government departments, educational establishments, hospitals, hostels and the home.
The stocked fabric and foam is tested to BS 7176 Low Hazard. These products are suitable for use in offices, public places and all other environments where Medium Hazard has not been specified.
All products carry a 5 year component guarantee as standard, unless where indicated in the product information section next to each product. All upholstery is guaranteed for 2 years. Our standard component guarantee applies when the product has been used for the purpose intended and under normal conditions. Replacements necessitated by normal wear and tear, accident, improper care or use, negligence, or a natural breakdown of colours and materials over extended time and use, are not covered under our guarantee
We are committed to giving our customers quality products that are suitable for the UK market. Our product development and quality control programme incorporates a 4 stage process: specifying the design of the products in-line with market trends; meeting the necessary strength and stability tests; production line checks and a final check as the products enter our warehouse in the UK.
Where stated our leather chairs are genuine leather and as such will have leather characteristics. Our fabric coverings are strong and durable fabric that also conform to UK fire regs (as mentioed above). Another covering we use is Polyurethane (PU) or Faux Leather. PU has been developed as a greener and more eco friendly alternative to Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).
PVC releases toxic dioxins into the atmosphere in production and is difficult to dispose of, emitting carcinogenic VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) when incinerated. PU is biodegradable, whereas PVC does not biodegrade and leaches toxic additives in landfills.
Comparitively PU is also a greener alternative to leather, which is linked to large amounts of water pollution and uses numerous chemicals, including heavy metals, in tanning.
Naturally soft and flexible, polyurethane does not require the solvents used in softening PVC and Leather. Polyurethane based Faux Leather is also an animal friendly alternative to natural leather. More info can be found here.
We source our products from FIRA (Furniture Industry Research Association) members. FIRA is an internationally recognised research body for furniture and seating in the UK. FIRA places our products through stringent tests in order to ensure that they meet the appropriate quality standards. The products have been tested to British, European and International standards and all tests and certificates are backed by accreditation from the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS).
